Do you want to know how I won the Association of African Universities (AAU), small grants for theses, and dissertations? I also want to tell you and I will tell you now.
The Association of African Universities (AAU), small grants for theses and dissertations is an award worth three thousand five hundred dollars ($3, 500). The award is given to students who are doing their master’s and doctorate degree programs in Africa. Some Universities in Africa have come together under the umbrella of AAU. When you apply for the award, your school or institution must be up to date in terms of a yearly subscription to AAU in order for you to be eligible.
I came across the advertisement for the award somewhere on the internet. I went ahead and put together my application documents. I followed the instructions given line by line and I got the number of references desired. I made sure my referees were professors. References written by professors carry more weight than those written by others who are not professors.
I wrote my proposal as they requested. I explained the research or experiments I have done already on the program. I also explained the next experiments I will do in the course of the program. I wrote my budget for the experiments that lie ahead of me in the course of the program. I submitted the whole application documents as expected and as instructed.
After I submitted the completed application form, I forgot about it and faced other things connected with my postgraduate studies. I never knew I will ever win the grant the way I won it. I was not prepared for it to come about in that manner.
I saw the award notification in my Gmail when I logged in on the first day of October in the year I won the award. As I logged in I saw the mail and I checked it. I saw that they had sent the same mail to the wrong version of my Gmail account sometime in September. When they saw it was returned undelivered, they decided to send it to me by checking my correct email address.
When I saw the letter from AAU in the mail, I was overjoyed.. The instruction was that I should provide my domiciliary account details by email and then they will send two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) to me. The remaining one thousand dollars ($1, 000) was to be paid to me after I have completed the program. I sent my account details as instructed and I got the alert about the grant money after about a month. I got the balance of the payment after I completed the program and sent the final report to AAU.
In conclusion, this is the story of how I won the Association of African Universities (AAU), small grants for theses, and dissertations. Like someone told me some time ago, “if I can get it, you also can get it”. All you need to do now is to apply for it and others grants.
